Brad Porter, President of Porter Consulting
I read with interest The Register’s article about the exodus of executives from VMware. Here at Porter Consulting, we’ve been watching VMware in the increasingly crowded virtualization/cloud space and believe they can still be a strong player. They have an extensive installed base of customers, and virtualization technology tends to be very sticky. However, there will be consolidation in this area over the next 3-5 years and only the players with the largest market share who have a believable path to the future will survive. The exodus of older executives is not necessarily a bad thing—it gives the opportunity for ‘new’ styles of thinking to be heard within a company like VMware. However, they need to show this by communicating their future plans broadly and clearly. Let me know your thoughts at brad(at)porterconsulting(dot)net.
